FROM HUNDRED PERCENT SD – What does it take to be a young upcoming talent in Hollywood? Good looks, knowing how to dance, being able to sing, & act. Maybe its all of the above, but one of the most promising new actors says it all starts with one word.
“Discipline”, says James Maslow of the upcoming Nickelodeon show “Big Time Rush”. Maslow attributes his sense of discipline from martial arts training. “It taught me to stay focus and set goals. To never give up and have that tenacity and drive!”
Based on results, it’s working out for the 19 year old La Jolla native. James’s success wasn’t one that came over night. His journey started when he joined the San Diego Children’s Choir at the tender age of 6. “But it wasn’t till I hit 8th grade while attending the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts that I knew I wanted to become an entertainer,” he states. “I remember waking up at 5am to take the bus, since SDSCPA was in Paradise Hills, and while I was there, that’s when I made the commitment that this is what I wanted to do.”
For 2 years he traversed the morning rituals of waking up before sun rise in order to better his craft. And it would soon pay off. Maslow made the transition from the small stage to the small screen landing a role as “Shane” from another Nick show, iCarly.
His single role caused a stir touting comparisons of being the next Zac Efron. When asked how he felt about the comparison he answered, “It’s an honor! I respect him 100%. He loves what he does and has worked hard to get to where he is at. I take it as a compliment.”
James & the rest of the boys from Big Time Rush
James humbling personality is a bit off the deep end from the character he plays in “Big Time Rush”. His character on the show can only be described as someone who is driven by fame, clothes, and a hit with the ladies but with the confidence to match it. “I can relate to my character in real life in the aspects of his drive and passion to succeed. But at the same time I can also relate to Kendal since he works hard to get to position he is in. Not to mention Carlos as well because he is wild and athletic, and Logan because just like him, I got straight A’s in school,” states Maslow.
With the eminent launch of the on going show in 2010 along with a planned nationwide tour, Maslow stays focus in his “dream job.” His hard work and self dedication is paying off. More importantly he cites, “Having a support system of family and friends has helped me through this whole process. I’m very fortunate to have them in my life.”
Could James Maslow’s formula to success be something that we should look into? Maybe we should. It just goes to show you that if you want something bad enough, the only person stopping you is yourself.
James Maslow has a promising future ahead of him. With the right drive and support the sky is the limit. Make sure you support him and “Big Time Rush” in 2010.
