Hollywood Mom Blog interviewed Challen Cates of Big Time Rush! Check it out:
HMB: Looking at your body of work, I’d said your acting background is varied, some prime time TV guest spots, independent film roles, even producing. What attracted you to the role of Mrs. Knight?
CC: I was actually watching a competing show and I said to my husband, ” I’d like to play the mom on a show like this,” et voila that’s exactly what happened. Be careful what you wish for, right?! I love comedy and I really love working on a broad comedy. Mrs. Knight is such a cool and trusting mom and she’s a single mom. I have an incredible amount of respect for single mothers so it is an honor to play one.
HMB: Did you have any hesitations about becoming a series regular or was it more like a dream come true?
CC: This really is a perfect job for me at this point in my life. It’s great that I am working on a show that shoots 15 minutes from my house and a show that my kids like to watch! However, I am an actor and as much as I love playing Mrs. Knight there are also other roles that I want to experience. I love playing against type. Anything that involves totally losing myself in a character that is a departure from me.
HMB: What process did you go through to get the role on “Big Time Rush?”
CC: Besides the obvious sexual favors? Just kidding. Oddly enough, it happened through normal channels. I didn’t know anyone involved with the project. No nepotism. I just auditioned and got the part. As an actor, you go on so many auditions. Sometimes you walk out of the room feeling great and sometimes not so great. This time is just felt right. I was completely at ease with the character, even though we have different backgrounds and lifestyles. I think Mrs Knight and I approach life in much the same way–with a healthy sense of humor to get you through the day.

FROM RELATE MAG – Recently we had the chance to interview singer/songwriter/ actor James Maslow. Continue to read on and learn about James, his music and about his show.
R: Tell us a little bit about yourself?
J: I was born in NYC, but grew up in La Jolla, CA. I love to surf and be active in my free time. Whenever I’m at the beach I feel at home.
R: At what age did you start to sing and act?
J: I began singing seriously when I joined the San Diego Children’s choir at age 6… Might have even been 5!
R: You also write music and play the piano and the guitar. How long have you been playing? What was your first song about?
J: I have been dabbling for about 5 years on both, but I’m still working to get better. I write mostly on piano these days. My first song was about my first serious girlfriend and how we broke up…it’s sad to me lyric-wise, but fun to play and sing.

HUGE thank you to Challen for taking the time to answer some questions! All of us love you! Also, a HUGE thank you to Jenny for hooking us up with this interview!
What is it like working with the guys of Big Time Rush?
Oh wow. Working with the guys is a blast. They are always so fun and creative and spontaneous. We are like one big zany family. And besides being fun they are also incredibly sweet and nice.
When working with four boys, is there ever a dull moment on set?
Ha! No. Never a dull moment. Their energy is totally infectious. Sometimes it is really hard not to laugh in the middle of a take.
What was it like to meet and dance with Fabio?
Fabio was amazing. He was such a good sport to do all of the crazy things they asked him to do. He is very charming and friendly. It was fun to work [with] him and dance with him.
How did you hear about auditions for Big Time Rush?
It was really just the normal way. My manager called with an audition. I worked on it with my husband and then went it to read for the casting director, Geralyn Flood. She was great and gave me some thoughts about the character. It was really easy because it felt really natural to be Mrs. Knight.

Just Jared Jr. caught up with Kendall Schmidt & Katelyn Tarver who plays Jo on Big Time Rush, and talked to them about the relationship between Kendall & Jo plus what’s next for both of them.
The last time we saw Jo (Katelyn Tarver) and Kendall (Kendall Schmidt) on Big Time Rush, Jo wasn’t too happy with Kendall’s “flirting” with Jordin Sparks.
So what’s going to happen to the cute Palm Woods couple? JJJ caught up with both Katelyn and Kendall to find out! Check it out:
Katelyn joked, “Big time celebrity trying to steal my man! (laughs) But in the end, Kendall does stay true; it’s true love.”
Kendall followed up, “It’s funny. The first episode of the second season we actually touch on their relationship a lot. I think Jo and Kendall are really meant for each other and they’re going to fight for each other too. The first episode will definitely answer all the questions about those two.”

J-14 magazine updated this blog with an interview with Big Time Rush! Check it out:
J-14 hung out with Big Time Rush while they were visiting New York City! We not only had an exclusive photo shoot with them, we got the scoop on their fave episodes, what it was like playing in Times Square, and the craziest fan encounter they’ve had yet!
J-14: What was your favorite episode to film this season?
Carlos Pena: The finale, because it was full of so much stuff. [June 10] we did a smaller concert in L.A., and it was a lot of singing and dancing and running around L.A. — it was fun.
James Maslow: The episode where I am completely orange the entire time. I get addicted to Mangerine Tanning Spray. It is hilarious. It was terrible at the time because I had to be sprayed orange every day — there is probably still orange in my fingernails five months later.
J-14: What was it like to perform in Times Square recently?
Carlos Pena: It was amazing. I don’t think my parents thought that in one year I’d be playing in front of 2,000 people in the middle of Times Square. My mom was crying. She was like, “This is amazing!” To see my dad’s face — his expression was just like, “I cannot believe this is happening to my son.”
Kendall Schmidt: Before New York, we rehearsed for five or six days back in L.A. These last rehearsals were pretty crazy. I compared it to doing tae bo while singing. I didn’t do any dancing before BTR, so this is something I had to get used to, and learning all the new dances turned out pretty cool. I don’t want to toot my own horn or anything, but I feel like I did pretty well in the dancing department. It could be better, but I feel like I hold my own for only taking hip-hop classes when I was eight.

FROM RUNWAY MAGAZINE – The new Hollywood Heartthrob
Where did you film “Big Time Rush”? We currently film “Big Time Rush” on the Paramount lot in Los Angeles. It is a beautiful lot where many shows have been and are still being created. In fact, one of our sound stages was used to film “The Godfather”!
What is your most memorable experience on set? On the Friday of the 6th episode we were all becoming a little bit restless after a long but fun week. So at the end of the last scene the boys and I decided to push our director in the pool with full clothes on! Of course, we all decided to jump in after which turned into a huge water fight. With the exception of the camera crew, who didn’t appreciate the splashes endangering their equipment, everyone had a great time.
What is your favorite thing in your closet? When it’s cold, my black Calvin Klein pea coat for sure! But since LA is usually warm, I think I’ll go with the pair of Rock and Republic jeans that my grandma (or G-MA as I call her) got me in SoHo last time I was in New York.
Who is your favorite fashion designer? I like a lot of different styles and clothes but if I have to choose one designer, I’ll say Diesel since I wear a lot of their brand.

We got some exciting news! Check it out:
The guys will do a LIVE twitter session from their official twitter page on Friday, at 5 PM PST. Fans can follow them on their official page and ask them questions about their characters, the show, and each other. All four guys will log in at that time to answer questions.
Danielle, a kid reporter for Scholastic Kids Press interviewed Big Time Rush at their New York appearance. She got the guys to talk about their dream girl, bloopers and what their character names were originally.
Crowds of screaming fans greeted the four new best friends as they attended two screenings of the new series in New York City recently. The actors then met with press at the Planet Hollywood in Times Square to promote the new comedy series.
This Kid Reporter was lead to a booth in a quiet area of the restaurant to talk with all four. The guys were funny, nice, and not afraid to answer questions or reveal secrets.
The biggest reveal was about their names. Why do the actors and characters share the same first names?
“We’ve never said this in an interview,” Kendal said. “I don’t think anybody really knows this.”
The names originally planned for the characters were changed to the actors’ names to help the boys bond, he explained.
“I think using our names brings out a really cool side to all of us,” Logan said. “And I think it kind of helps whenever we’re performing on stage or having an interview like this. You can just call us by our actual names and it’s much easier.”
Original character names were Jessie for Carlos, Bryan for James, and Donavan for Kendall. The real doozey was Logan’s name: Konas.
“Konas!” said Kendall with a hoot. “Nobody has that name. It’s crazy. We could have been the Konas Brothers. Really. Think about it.”
