FROM RELATE MAG – Recently we had the chance to interview singer/songwriter/ actor James Maslow. Continue to read on and learn about James, his music and about his show.

R: Tell us a little bit about yourself?
J: I was born in NYC, but grew up in La Jolla, CA. I love to surf and be active in my free time. Whenever I’m at the beach I feel at home.

R: At what age did you start to sing and act?
J: I began singing seriously when I joined the San Diego Children’s choir at age 6… Might have even been 5!

R: You also write music and play the piano and the guitar. How long have you been playing? What was your first song about?
J: I have been dabbling for about 5 years on both, but I’m still working to get better. I write mostly on piano these days. My first song was about my first serious girlfriend and how we broke up…it’s sad to me lyric-wise, but fun to play and sing.

Master’s Tree, a Christmas story inspired by the Mississippi-based Palmer Home for Children that begins shooting here April 19.

The film’s star is rising teen sensation James Maslow, a 19-year-old acting-and-singing heartthrob known for his role in the current Nickelodeon series “Big Time Rush.”

To be directed by David Mickey Evans (“The Sandlot”), “Master’s Tree” is the story of several parentless children, led by Maslow, who leave the Palmer Home campus in Mississippi for a comic and dramatic adventure that takes them to Memphis at Christmastime, where they come under the wing of The Peabody duckmaster, played by Jones (who acted in the Memphis-made “A Family Thing” in 1996).

The runaways are inspired by noble motives: They leave the Palmer Home to make way for three motherless children, who arrive at the home needing a place to stay.

The Big Time Rush star turns 20 today!

JJJ called up James earlier this week to find out what he was doing on his day. He shared with us, “You know, besides hanging out with these guys [Kendall Schmidt, Logan Henderson, and Carlos Pena], my other two best friends are coming into town and we’ll do something. Not sure what yet, but we’ll figure something out.”

Whatever you do James, we hope it’s fun!

FROM INSPIRE TEEN – James Maslow is stars as James Diamond on the show, “Big Time Rush.” Inspire was able to chat with Maslow on his new life and new role.

You’re in a brand new Nick show, what were your expectations of “Big Time Rush” when signing on?

In the beginning, the idea of having a TV show and a contract with Sony seemed quite appealing, but like all other auditions I tried not to get my hopes up. After over two years of auditioning though, I began to believe they would not put that much time, money, and effort into something they didn’t want to succeed greatly. Nick and Sony set expectations for the show and music very high, and I followed suit, but none of us could have predicted that it would do as well as it currently is! We’re all very grateful.

And you star as James Diamond – could you describe him to us?

James Diamond is a good-hearted, driven character that often puts too much emphasis on material objects, and straddles a fine line between confidence and cockiness. He is driven by fame, fashion and girls, but in his defense; aren’t we all motivated by the last one?

What has been one of the greatest episodes to film and why?

So far, “Big Time Love Song” has been my favorite to film. In that episode I had the pleasure of working with Lorenzo Llamas, which was great, [I] had my hands and face covered with prosthetic which was weird but fun, and [I] got to dance as a caveman…I think I have said enough.

KOL caught up with James Maslow recently, and give us 12 Things You Might Not Know About the Big Time Rush Actor.

1) James and the three other leads in ‘Big Time Rush’ were all found in a nationwide talent search. His first audition for the show was over two years ago.

2) James plays James Diamond in ‘Big Time Rush’ a very fashionable guy who loves to sing.

3) James has been doing double duty- shooting ‘Big Time Rush’ the TV show and recording the group’s first album in the studio.

4) James played Shane in an episode of ‘iCarly.’ His character was a guy Sam and Carly fought over.

5) At ten James worked with the San Diego Opera Company.

James Maslow co-stars as Brandon, Catharine’s online heartthrob. James is a singer, dancer and actor whose musical and acting talents snagged him a guest-star role on iCarly and then the starring role on the new Nickelodeon Primetime series Big Time Rush. urFRENZ is James’ first feature film.
